Clean Green Smoothie
Today I want to share with you one of my favourite green smoothie recipes. I often post smoothie recipes on my Instagram, so be sure to check them out too! But, I also want talk a little bit about dehydration.
Approximately 75% of the population are chronically dehydrated, and most of them don't even know it. Having lived with their symptoms for years, people have no idea what it is like to be well hydrated. Hydration is key to living a healthy lifestyle, losing weight, and having clear skin and good digestion.
How do you tell if you are dehydrated?
- Urine should be clear. If it is deep yellow, or dark you are dehydrated.
- Eight to twelve times per day is considered a healthy frequency (and a good amount too). Any less, you need to drink up!
Do you drink coffee or caffeinated energy drinks? Caffeine is a diuretic (meaning, it dehydrates you). Check your pee colour after consuming these drinks. Read my '5 Reasons to Ditch the Coffee' blog post.
You're probably thinking do I have to drink that much water? Is there an easier way? Well, there is! Water is also found in fresh fruit and vegetables, so you can eat your recommended water intake too. That's one of the reasons I absolutely love smoothies. Not only are they delicious and fun to drink, they are very hydrating!
Be sure to still sip on water throughout the day. 2 litres of water per day is a good amount to keep your body and skin hydrated.
Clean Green Smoothie
5 ripe bananas - make sure you always use spotted bananas as they are better for digestion and they contain the most nutrients!
1 frozen mango
2 handfuls of spinach
1 tablespoon hemp seeds
1 tablespoon chia seeds
Juice from 1 orange
2 tablespoons barley grass juice powder
Water - enough to get things going in the blender. If too thick add more! More the merrier.
I've heard a few people say that there is a correct order of filing up your blender when making a smoothie. I personally just throw it all in, in any order and hit blend!
A high-speed blender is key to creating the perfectly combined smoothie. The last thing you want is chunks of spinach! I recommend an Optimum high-speed vortex blender - I use this one here.
